Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented bookkeeper to perform the job duties as outlined below for several of our non-profit accounts. Our ideal candidate will have a track record for providing accurate and efficient work. This position is expected to take 15-30 hours per month, dependent on need and seasonal workload requirements.

Bookkeeper Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain the chart of accounts, including classes for all grant and other programs;
  • Enter and maintain program fiscal year budgets;
  • Maintain month-end close checklists and report any issues timely;
  • Record day to day financial transactions and complete the posting process on a weekly basis;
  • Verify that transactions are recorded in the correct period, vendor or customer ledger, general ledger account and program or class;
  • Perform quality control checks of the posting process and notify senior staff of any errors or issues;
  • Complete monthly bank statement reconciliations, tracking and resolving unreconciled items;
  • Create monthly reports and financial statements;
  • Prepare monthly expense accruals and maintain prepaid expense and deferred revenue schedules if applicable;
  • Process accounts receivable and accounts payable timely in bill payment and accounting systems;
  • Invoice grant providers in accordance with grant program rules and budgets;
  • Process payroll in the payroll system as applicable and record payroll journal entries;
  • Document and maintain standard operating procedures in regards to the bookkeeping

Qualifications

Prior bookkeeping knowledge and experience (either through education or work experience); Proficiency with MS Office Suite (particularly MS Excel); Ability to organize and manage time; Excellent communication skills Ability and willingness to learn; Knowledge and experience using QuickBooks Online a plus; Education in accounting, finance or related field a plus; Experience with bookkeeping for grants and non-profit organizations a plus;
