Accountant II with Payroll
Position Type: This role is currently a part-time, contract position with the potential to become a permanent, full-time position; estimated 15 – 20 hours per week
Location: Partially or Fully Remote; We are located in Louisville, KY and would love to find someone local, but will hire the right person fully remote
Compensation: Pay range is $25 – $30 per hour, commensurate with experience
Position Summary
The Accountant II with Payroll performs a variety of professional accounting work with a focus on payroll. This includes preparing, maintaining, analyzing, verifying, and reconciling financial data for internal organization(s) and clients: A/P, A/R, journal entries, reconciling bank statements, generating financial reports, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing processes.
Additionally, will be responsible for maintaining payroll systems and processing paychecks according to schedule and in the correct amount for internal organization(s) and clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Perform basic accounting procedures, e.g. A/R, A/P, P/R, G/L, tax payments
- Perform bank reconciliation and account reconciliation
- Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Produce financial data for management team and / or clients upon request and assist with other special Accounting projects from time to time
- Assist with internal and external audits to ensure compliance
- Communicate with customers for account maintenance or to address issues
- Identify opportunities for improving internal processes and service to clients
- Research and resolve process, client and system problems
- Follow established recordkeeping and organizational procedures
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field preferred
- 3+ years accounting experience, nonprofit experience preferred
- Solid understanding of payroll and payroll tax laws required
- Proven facility in customer service
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Process-oriented mindset with attention to details
- Strong organization, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines while ensuring accuracy
- 3+ years experience using accounting software, preferably NetSuite and QuickBooks
- 1+ years experience with using payroll software, preferably Paycom and QuickBooks
- Strong computer aptitude, which includes experience with Microsoft Excel and Word as well as experience with accounting software
