Tell us about you and your experience finding work on HireMyMom.

I knew after my daughter was born I did not want to return to my job and have to put her in daycare. Luckily, I came across Hire My Mom and landed my dream job in about two months. I had several interviews before I ended up with the VA position I have now and  it could not be a more perfect fit.

What are your top tips for landing a job or jobs on HireMyMom.com?

Always be true to yourself and don’t apply to jobs that you know you don’t have the skill set for unless they say they are willing to train you. It’s also important to not be discouraged while searching for a job because it takes time to find the right fit. Have patience and pray for the right job to come your way.

What piece of advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your work from home journey?

It’s very important to make sure your resume is all that it can be. I highly recommend using Canva to truly customize your resume and making it stand out from all the rest. Also be sure to customize every cover letter that you send.

What do you see as your greatest success in life?

My greatest success in life will always be my daughter. She is such a light and a true joy to be around. I am beyond blessed to be her Mommy.

What is something about you that many people don’t know?

I actually graduated nursing school, accepted my first nursing position, and soon after I found out I was expecting. After my daughter was born I ended up doing a complete career change in order to be able to stay home with her and it was the best decision I’ve ever made.

Tell us about you and your experience finding work on HireMyMom.

I was skeptical to sign up for HireMyMom as I’ve always used free Job boards like Indeed but I decided to give it a try. After I revised my resume, I started to apply to a few jobs that I knew I would be good at, some I had tons of experience in the related field and others I didn’t have any professional experience in. I made sure to write a cover letter for each job explaining why I would be a good fit. After a week, I had two rejections, so I was a bit discouraged and left it at that, but within the next week two more companies reached out for interviews! I landed a job as a social media manager with no experience doing this, and another job as an appointment setter!

What did you do previously?

I currently am an administrative assistant at a large commercial HVAC company. I did have experience doing this type of work remotely as well. I have a sales background and have always done various virtual assistant tasks for bloggers over the years.

What are your top tips for landing a job or jobs on HireMyMom.com?

Write a cover letter for each application explaining why you would be a good fit but be honest about your skills. Although I didn’t have experience in the fields I was hired for, I had many skills needed to complete the tasks and am a fast learner. But, I was still very honest about what I knew and what I didn’t!

What’s your favorite thing about HireMyMom.com?

My favorite thing about HireMyMom is the quality of job postings. You know there won’t be a bunch of scams to sift through and there are new postings very regularly. They also know you are a mom and need flexibility.

What’s one fun or interesting fact about you?

I love to paddle board at Lake Erie!.

HireMyMom Success Story: Tamlin Bruton

Tell us about you and your experience finding work on HireMyMom.

I joined HireMyMom in November 2019 on a limb to find a work at home job. My husband and I knew we wanted more for our family than working 50+ hours a week to just cover child care. I quit my job to take care of our 4 month old at home and my husband was working two jobs and averaging 65 hours a week. Our dream was for me to find a remote job working from home to be able to continue to stay home and my husband to be able to take a new job offer from a different company. To be honest, we were both so nervous to take a chance and had a decent discussion about spending money on a subscription because that’s how much of a budget we were on.

After having no luck on other job sites, we decided to take the chance, and I am SO glad we did!! I checked HireMyMom multiple times a week if not everyday and applied to everything that I could. I made sure to follow up with companies, keep my profile updated, and utilize both a resume and cover letter. At the beginning of February, I heard back about the next steps of one of my applications for a work from home job, answering a few questions in a pre-recorded video for a company based out of Nashville, TN. By the next week I made it to the final rounds of Zoom video interviews for the same company.

I am so thankful to say that February 18th, 2020 was my first day at my new full-time remote job!! Less than 3 months on HireMyMom changed mine and my family’s entire life.

What did you do previously?

I have my BS in Psychology and a double minor in sociology and public health. I have previous experience in customer service, network marketing, sales, and health and human services. Many years of my professional experience is specifically in the mental health setting, providing skills training and case management to adolescents and families at both the residential and state level.

What are your top tips for landing a job or jobs on HireMyMom.com?

CONSISTENCY. Check HireMyMom as much as you can. Apply, apply, apply, to any job that you believe you could make an excellent hire for. It is easy to get discouraged when trying to find a new employment opportunity because it can take time, but stick to your gut and your dream for you and your family.

What’s one fun or interesting fact about you?

I have watched The Office more times than I care to admit. That show is my absolute go-to!!

Read “Who: The A Method for Hiring” by Geoff Smart and Randy Street. It’s a game-changer when trying to find your needle in the haystack. 

I was once told that a small business relies on the strength of its people, a medium business on the strength of its processes, and a large business on the strength of its values. That transition from people to processes can be one of the hardest jumps for a business to make, but it doesn’t happen at all if you don’t first begin with a strong team—or as we call them, “A” Players. If you have a current staffing problem or you’re just in the mood for a great business book, we highly recommend it.

 

What is your top tip for working with a virtual team?

Two things keep our team strong, the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen being one of them. We are obsessed with continual improvement—in ourselves and with our clients’ businesses. Each year we set goals for ourselves to master something new that benefits the team, company, ourselves, and clients. Complacency is the enemy. On the other hand, we have FUN. We know how to kick the dust up in all kinds of settings, all virtual, of course. And we love burritos… it’s our thing.

 

Why did you decide to use HireMyMom.com for your hiring needs?

We hire long-term part-time contractors with the right experience. Many moms don’t need or want to return to a 40-50 hour week grind and the massive sacrifices that entails. We moved from South Florida to North Carolina almost two years ago and absolutely love it. We moved with the intent of a lifestyle change and that I could be a stay at home mom. Now that my kids are older, I’m hoping to find work from home so that I could still be present but feel productive. I am SO glad I gave HireMyMom a chance!  After just one week, I found multiple jobs that interested me. I’m thrilled to have received two offers and have accepted a position!  Very excited about the work I’ll be doing and best of all I won’t have to sacrifice time with my kids. After a hard season of life, I decided to try and find a job where I can bring in some extra money while still being home with my son and not have to pay the insanely high costs of childcare. I saw an ad for HireMyMom, and I felt drawn to the site. Within my first day using the site I had two interviews scheduled and my first day as a VA is tomorrow!

 

What did you do previously?

Patient Advocacy. I have no previous experience as a Virtual Assistant. I have worked remotely on occasion at other jobs I’ve held, but nothing long term. I truly believe customizing my cover letters to mention how my past experience related specifically to each job I applied for helped me. I applied and also reached out via email to the contact listed on the job posting. The first job I reached out to this way is now my current employer! I fully believe that a customized email or cover letter and providing some information about yourself and your goals was the game changer for me!!

Personalize your cover letter and always follow up. I think it’s so important because so many websites don’t provide that email contact information, and I believe if you have it, it’s worth reaching out to them to show you’re not only interested but that you’re willing to take charge and take a risk!! It can be scary to reach out to someone you don’t know, but it can come with big rewards as well!

I am married homeschooling mom of three girls. I started using HireMyMom a few years ago in my work from home endeavors and upon returning to school to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing. I’ve gotten three or four jobs since using HireMyMom; two of them I’ve had for over two years now. I actually was just contacted today about another possible job! My experience with HireMyMom is like no other out there. I love the new website and easier navigation for searching for jobs and setting up my resumes etc. in the dashboard. My experience has been beyond amazing!

Before working from home, I utilized my Child Development degree assistant directing and teaching in a private preschool program for 8 years.

HireMyMom Success Story: Lauren Heiden

Hi! I am Lauren Heiden. I am 35 years old and have been married for 13 years.  We have two kids, and we live in Indiana. When we brought our son home from the hospital 8 years ago, I fully expected to go back to work at least part time; however, I quickly realized how attached I was to him and I just had to figure something out. My good friend had subscribed to HireMyMom.com and told me to join and see what I could find.

Praise the Lord I found a position within a week and I was so thankful to get to stay at home with my son! The income was going to cover a few bills and my husband and I believed this could work for us.  That position lasted for one year and it was great. When the project ended, I instantly got back on HireMyMom and found my second position within a week and I have held this same position for 7 years now. Using HireMyMom was a great experience. The interface is so user-friendly. I love that you can contact the hiring manager, and I feel like the employers already know that their candidates are honest, hard-working people… so that is out of the way and we can figure out if the job is a great match quickly.  Being home has been a dream!

 

What did you do previously?

I worked in Sales and Event Planning before becoming a stay at home mom. I have a Marketing degree and an MBA.  My concentration was always in sales and entrepreneurship.

Hop on the site every day, see if new postings are up. Apply for what fits you and follow up with the hiring manager if you haven’t heard back. There is a fine line of not being annoying but being bold enough to ask for the job. You can do it, momma! Go for what you want and need! And pray!

 

What’s your favorite thing about HireMyMom ?

I feel like I can trust the postings- I feel like HireMyMom screens the employers well enough that I can trust that the position is legit and worth looking into.

 

What’s one fun or interesting fact about you?

I am a mom from the Midwest. I am so blessed to get to spend every day with my kids. What a gift it is from the Lord. As much as I love being home with them, when I go for something, I really go for it. I have a favorite actor I follow in Hollywood and when I saw a casting call for a part in her movie she was producing a few states away from me, I applied, I got the “background” part and got to be on that movie set for a few days! The movie comes out this December.
