Success Story: Nicole Blackwood

Tell us about you and your experience finding work on HireMyMom.

I had been looking for a job since June with no luck, I stumbled upon HireMyMom on Facebook, joined the FB page and after seeing some of the success stories decided to give the website a try. After a week and a half, and applying for 8 jobs on the site, I was contacted for an interview and was hired the next day!

What are your top tips for landing a job or jobs on HireMyMom.com?

Don’t get discouraged, apply to anything you know you have at least a few of the skills for, one person will never have every skill an employer is looking for. And look outside your comfort zone. I have never worked as a copywriter before, turns out I’m pretty good at it.

What piece of advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your work from home journey?

“If it was meant for everyone, then everyone would do it”. I wasn’t sure how I would take working from home, I enjoy being out and around people, turns out working from home is a pretty good fit for me.

What do you see as your greatest success in life?

Being able to stay home with my kids when they were young. You will never get that time back, and I am so eternally grateful I had the precious time with them.

What is something about you that many people don’t know?

I love to binge watch cooking competitions and HGTV.

Success Story: Lisa Trinidad

Tell us about you and your experience finding work on HireMyMom.

I heard about Hire My Mom through a FB group. I started working as a Virtual Assistant and was having a difficult time finding clients. I went ahead and signed up for HMM and I would review their postings every day. I was so surprised with the amount of legitimate postings on their site each day.  Within a month of actively searching, I was hired for two amazing companies. I made sure to apply for jobs, that I felt like our values aligned; I wanted to make sure I could be with them long term. I was very strategic on which places to apply. If I weren’t, I’m pretty sure I’d land a job even sooner.

I love HMM because, the entrepreneurs and candidates looking to hire, understand that we are Moms, so they are really flexible. They also value us, because we are just as hardworking.

What are your top tips for landing a job or jobs on HireMyMom.com?

My tips for landing a job(s) at HMM is to put a task on your google calendar for a certain time in the day and use that time to search and apply for jobs.

Make sure you have your a cover letter and resume ready to go.

Make sure you read the job description carefully as it gives clues about the type of company you will be working for and how you see yourself fit in doing that work.

Make sure you also use the message box to add a little flair to who you are and why you’d love to work with this business.

If you sent an email to apply, please follow up within 3 – 5 days.

Keep checking week after week, because there are so many jobs posted daily, and I’m sure you will find the perfect fit in due time. If you make it your task to log in everyday for a month, I’m sure you will find a good fit. Don’t give up!

What piece of advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your work from home journey?

I wish, someone would’ve told me about HireMyMom sooner!

What do you see as your greatest success in life?

My greatest success in life, is being a Mom. Also being able to have it all, flexibility, time to raise my girls and be able to provide for my family. Not giving up in this journey to live the life I always wanted.

What is something about you that many people don’t know?

Many people don’t know that I used to work for Telemundo/NBC! I also had a career of over ten years working in Higher Education, before I left to become a freelancer.

Success Story: Amy Davis

Tell us about you and your experience finding work on HireMyMom.

The first day I joined, I found two jobs that I was really excited about and applied. Then, there was about a 4 days or so that nothing new, that I was interested in, was popping up and I became discouraged. Just as I became discouraged, several jobs I was excited about appeared! I had three interviews in one week! One week later, I had my second interview with the company I most aligned with of the initial three. I received an offer and accepted in less than one month of membership! This was also the first time the company that hired me had posted a job on this website.

What are your top tips for landing a job or jobs on HireMyMom.com?

I think, checking daily is the key to finding the jobs that most align with what you are seeking.

What piece of advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your work from home journey?

I have worked from home before, but I had one company give me a test. I liked that as a person that hasn’t been in a business setting in 10 year, so I don’t have the technology background companies currently look for, a test was a good way to show that I can figure things out quickly. I told the company I ultimately was hired by about the test, they thought that was a good idea and I was able to show my ability to be resourceful and got the job!

What do you see as your greatest success in life?

My ability to be flexible and shift in life when I need to with ease.

HireMyMom Success Story: Lisa Pou

Tell us about you and your experience finding work on HireMyMom.

I was referred to HireMyMom as I recently decided to start freelancing for myself and left the corporate world. When I first signed up, I actually applied for a job that I thought I’d be a good fit for. At the time, I was uneducated and didn’t realize how big a world there is for needing VA’s. I quickly found lots of resources here and ventured out to gain new skills. Fortunately, that one application led to my first VA job as a Campaign Manager. I got my first assignment that day!

What are your top tips for landing a job or jobs on HireMyMom.com?

Be confident. Know yourself and the skills you can bring to the job in order to be successful.

What piece of advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your work from home journey?

I learned I needed to jazz up my resume compared to my corporate or AI job applicant type resume.

What do you see as your greatest success in life?

Having the confidence to allow myself the chance to go out on my own. To also know my weaknesses and what I need to do to overcome them.

What is something about you that many people don’t know?

I’ve been a widow and now a single mom for 3 years and have been laid off twice during this time. I’ve had to completely find a new normal in every aspect of my life. And luckily have had the strength to move forward and build a new life both personally & professionally.

What is your top advice for small business owners looking to hire remote talent?

Know where to look and hire slowly.

What is your top tip for working with a virtual team?

Clarify tasks and processes, not just goals and roles. It’s important to focus more attention on the details of task design and the processes that will be used to complete them. Simplify the work to the greatest extent possible, ideally so tasks are assigned to sub-groups of two or three team members. And make sure that there is clarity about work process, with specifics about who does what and when.

Why did you decide to use HireMyMom.com for your hiring needs?

HireMyMom was recommended to us from another business owner. We had very little success on other sites for hiring, so we thought we would try something new. And we have been incredibly impressed! HireMyMom connects you with a high caliber of extremely skilled and qualified candidates.

What piece of advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your business career?

Understand how important resilience is. It’s likely that you’ll fail repeatedly before you succeed, but nothing is ever a failure if you learn from it. When you fail at something, learn what went wrong so you can avoid making the same mistake again and continue moving forward with your business. Persistence is what wins in entrepreneurship.

Success Story : Erica Gilbert

Tell us about you and your experience finding work on HireMyMom.

I knew after my daughter was born I did not want to return to my job and have to put her in daycare. Luckily, I came across Hire My Mom and landed my dream job in about two months. I had several interviews before I ended up with the VA position I have now and  it could not be a more perfect fit.

What are your top tips for landing a job or jobs on HireMyMom.com?

Always be true to yourself and don’t apply to jobs that you know you don’t have the skill set for unless they say they are willing to train you. It’s also important to not be discouraged while searching for a job because it takes time to find the right fit. Have patience and pray for the right job to come your way.

What piece of advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your work from home journey?

It’s very important to make sure your resume is all that it can be. I highly recommend using Canva to truly customize your resume and making it stand out from all the rest. Also be sure to customize every cover letter that you send.

What do you see as your greatest success in life?

My greatest success in life will always be my daughter. She is such a light and a true joy to be around. I am beyond blessed to be her Mommy.

What is something about you that many people don’t know?

I actually graduated nursing school, accepted my first nursing position, and soon after I found out I was expecting. After my daughter was born I ended up doing a complete career change in order to be able to stay home with her and it was the best decision I’ve ever made.

HireMyMom Success Story: Jill Rhea

Tell us about you and your experience finding work on HireMyMom.

I initially signed up for the Silver Trial package to see what HireMyMom was all about. After a week passed, I realized I liked what I saw, so I decided to sign up for the Gold Package option. During that time, there were always jobs being added every day. While some were not a fit for me, I liked knowing that there was work being done on their end to to continually add employers. I also liked knowing that the employers KNEW we were moms in the workforce previously and may be looking for different types of opportunities to get back into the corporate world.

What are your top tips for landing a job or jobs on HireMyMom.com?

READ the job posting. Many job postings give very detailed instructions on how to apply – whether it’s including a certain word in the cover letter or email subject line or applying a different way. It’s very important to make yourself stand out to the employers when there may be many applying. I would take the time up front to peek at the company to see if it’s even a good fit. I would read the posting, see if it’s something I’m even able to do, and then find their website before I proceeded to apply. Also do not apply to jobs that don’t match your skill set.

What piece of advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your work from home journey?

Be okay with not having it all. There are sacrifices you must make but it’s worth it even if you don’t have the newest and greatest thing that everyone else has. You are in control of your life.

What do you see as your greatest success in life?

Taking a leap of faith and leaving the corporate world even if it meant a drastic pay cut. I got to be home and experience the work from home lifestyle. Crazy at times but wouldn’t change it for the world to get to be there to pick up my daughter from school and take her to/from activities.

What is something about you that many people don’t know?

Since I’m mostly behind the screen these days and do thrive on making videos and going live, people don’t realize I’m very much an introvert and very shy.

HireMyMom Success Story: Cherelle Cramer

Tell us about you and your experience finding work on HireMyMom.

I am a military spouse, full time student and a new mom. Over the seven years of being a military spouse, I have learned that it gets harder and harder to start over everytime. Well in June of 2019, we got pregnant with our first child, a girl! We lived everyday for just us two, now we live for her. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to become a stay at home mom or put her in daycare. In July, we found out we got PCS orders to move. Now in a new place, I had to start all over again! I was able to get a job but I was on call. I wasn’t guaranteed hours so we couldn’t afford daycare. Then coronavirus hit the U.S. hard. In a financial hardship, I contacted my bank, the Navy Federal Financial Advisors to see what I could do. My advisor told me about HireMyMom.com. Within three weeks, I was offered a job! 👏🏼

What are your top tips for landing a job or jobs on HireMyMom.com?

I would say I know some of you looked at the membership fee and was like, why do I have to pay. I did the same thing but I promise you it is worth it! When you get access check everyday, apply everyday if you can. Make sure to include a customized cover letter every time.

What piece of advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your work from home journey?

I wish someone would have told me that it isn’t easy working from home all the time. It is definitely different than working in a traditional office setting.

What is something about you that many people don’t know?

That I am a workaholic. I can’t stay still.

Success Story: 12 Years in the Making

It’s always great to hear from people who have used your service over the years. After a recent email sent to our users, I was thrilled to hear from Doug, owner of PrinterShoppe, who hired someone on HireMyMom back in 2008.

Doug shares, “It has been about 12 years since I used your service to hire my first designer for my new business back then. And the FIRST Mom I hired as a Graphic Designer is STILL WITH ME!  Janice was an unemployed Graphic Designer after the print shop she worked in for years closed down.  At that time, Janice had a 4-year-old daughter and wanted to stay home to raise her.  Because of HireMyMom, PrinterShoppe provided her that opportunity. Now her daughter is graduating high school this year!  Janice still works with me and has been such a blessing to me, my business and our 15,000+ clients we have served over the years!”

Janice shares, “Back in 2008 when the print company I worked for 18 years closed its doors, it left me with no job and in an economy in a financial disaster. I was left in a panic, but I knew one thing, I wanted to try and work from home to raise my daughter. That is when I found HireMyMom, and back then there was not an abundance of help to find work from home. So when I came across HireMyMom.com, I was hopeful.  Landing this job in 2008 and working for Doug, has provided me with the precious gift of staying home to raise my daughter and be there for all the special, memorable and even goofy moments. I also am able to take care of my aging parents, and even provide help to my neighbors and community.”

“HireMyMom.com gave me with the opportunity to get my name out there, and a chance to find work from home. I am very thankful for the opportunity, connections, and friendships it has brought me,” said Janice.

Thank you Doug and Janice for sharing your story and the impact HireMyMom has had on you and your business.
